Join our community, become a DJ

We exist to empower women and gender expansive people to step into music roles through accessible, values-led DJ education within community-rooted spaces.

Are you sick of seeing the same people behind the decks and know you could bring something new to the mix?

Have you been thinking about learning how to DJ, but don’t know where to start?

Do you have playlists created and want to turn them into mixtapes, but don’t know how?

Selextorhood equips you with skills to take you from no idea, to mixing confidently.

Selextorhood is a community for women and gender expansive people who want to give DJing a go.

We demystify DJing by providing the tools, guidance and platform for those who are ready to take the next step, whatever level, age, or genre.

We provide a supportive environment for you to progress at your own pace with accountability calls, online lessons, as well as in person meet ups and gigs in Birmingham and London.

At SLX there is no pressure to perform, only the conditions that inspire you to put yourself forward, start climbing the ladder to get that elusive first gig.

After six years of teaching, community organisation and monitoring results, we know how to build confident DJs who are part of the solution to a more equal music industry.

Our online Discord server, Community Centre, SLX artist profiles, events and bookings provide you with opportunities to learn from others about DJing, the music industry, as well as you as an artist.

Unlike other DJ courses, Selextorhood has nurtured a community that means you have a ready made network to give you the leg up when it’s time to start playing outside of your comfort zone.

We are not a collective of DJs who play the same sounds, we are a community who supports one another, share ideas, challenges and experience so we all become rounded professionals.

The industry is rooted in patriarchy, but by connecting to feminine energy that nurtures connection, collaborates with one another and respects the flow, we defiantly do things differently.
